Using Digital Plat Maps

All plat maps are now in a .pdf file format. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer, you may obtain a free copy from Adobe by clicking here.

See below for instructions on opening the maps, and how to manipulate a map once you have it open.


Locating a map:
You can search for maps either by PID, Sec-Twsp-Range-QQ, or subdivision name.  You must 1st be logged in to the Web site at www.redi-net.com.

Find maps by PID: (for Hennepin, Ramsey, Washington, and Anoka Counties)
Enter in the PID number of the property under the PID field using the entry fields, and select field. Click  the “Open file” button to the right of the PID field, and the map will open in a new window.

Find maps by Sec-Twp-Range: (for all counties)
Enter in the Sec-Twp-Range of the property under the Sec-Twp-Range field using the entry fields, and select the QQ from the select field.  (prefix single section numbers with a zero. Example: not 1-25-20 but 01-25-20 or 01-115-20). Click the “Open file” button to the right of the Sec-Twp-Range field, and the map will open directly to MGI.
 

Using the Digital Plat Maps once they are open:
You can zoom in and out by clicking on the magnifying glass + or – Icon from the Icon bar across the top of your screen.
You can scroll North, South and East, West by using the scroll bars on the right and bottom of your screen, or by clicking on the "Pan" toolbar that looks like a hand, then by holding your mouse button down over the map, and moving your mouse.

Copying a map or a portion of a map for use in Word or Imaging type programs :
You may still use MGI as your imaging software for annotating the map, it is just that the pdf format will allow you to use any software, therefore making the maps more widely useable.
To select an area to copy, Click on the "Graphics Select Tool", or the "Snapshot Tool" from the top menu bar once you have opened a map. Click and hold your left mouse button down, move your mouse to draw a square around the desired area then let go of your mouse button. Now click with your right mouse button in the middle of the square you just drew, and select "Copy" from the menu with your left button. Now you can open your favorite Imaging Software, Document Program, etc., and "Paste" the map from the clipboard.

Annotating or drawing arrows on the map :
Adding text through MGI:

    From MGI..Assuming you have the desired portion of the map on your screen, click on the Add Text button on the left tool bar. (It's Icon is a capitol "A"). Type in your desired text and click OK. The text will be on your map, place your mouse over the top of the text, click and hold your left mouse button down and you can drag to a desired location on the map.

Adding text through Microsoft Word:
    From Microsoft Word...Assuming you have copied and pasted a desired portion of the map into Word, You will have to have your Drawing toolbar open. You can do this by Choosing "View" then "Toolbars", the click on "Drawing". From the drawing menu, click on the "Word Art" icon (the blue capital A). Select a text format, and click "OK" Type in desired text, choose desired size and click "OK". Place your mouse over the top of the text, click and hold your left mouse button down and you can drag to a desired location on the map.

     Adding arrows from Microsoft Word
    From Microsoft Word...Assuming you have copied and pasted a desired portion of the map into Word, You will have to have your Drawing toolbar open. You can do this by Choosing "View" then "Toolbars", the click on "Drawing". From the drawing menu, click on the Arrow Icon. Go to the map image and draw an arrow with your mouse by holding the left button down and moving your mouse toward the subject property.
Hint: Once you have drawn an arrow, you can double click on it to adjust the size, shape, color, etc. or place your mouse over the top of the arrow, click and hold your left mouse button down and you can drag to a desired location on the map.
